Text Entry Fields not capturing in simulation recording

Oct 11, 2012

Hi,

I am new to Storyline, so this is probably something simple. I am trying to create a "Try Me" software simulation (very similar to the "Sale Orientation" example in the Community Showcase). My mouse clicks are captured properly and converted to hot spots, but my text entry fields are not. They almost seem to be skipped over.

When I go into edit and try to man ually add a data entry field, I do not know how to get Storyline to check for it - it is expecting the user to click on the next hot spot, so the feedback is not correct.

I really need some help - trying to meet a deadline. I appreciate anything anyone can do to point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Lara

Good Afternoon Lara, and welcome to Heroes!

It sounds like you've already checked out Jeanette's awesome Tutorials on Adding, Inserting, and Editing Screen Recordings.

Have you also checked out her piece on Adding Data Entry Fields?  This Tutorial also links to her Adding and Editing Triggers Tutorial, which may be what is missing when you ask how to get Storyline to check for it.

If you're still having trouble, send us your .story file within a Support Case.  Be sure to let us know the specific slides that you're having trouble with, and we'll be happy to take a look.  Thanks!

Hello again, Lara.

When Screen Recording most applications, Storyline will attempt to detect Data Entry Fields.  Depending on how the specific application is built, we may not get the on-screen location quite right, or we might miss it altogether.

The best place to look for any Data Entry Fields detected by Storyline is in the Timeline, but if you're having trouble, please don't hesitate to send us your file so we can take a look.  Thanks!
