Text Entry Focus

Sep 24, 2013

Hi, folks.

Is it possible to command a text entry to start on the slide without the focus on?

I am working on a simulation and it would make more sense if none of the text entries have the focus on at the begginig. If it is not possible to do that, could I choose -at least- which of the text entries starts with focus on?

Hi Javier,

You should be able to place a shape under your text entries on the timeline...this shape can even be offstage...and when the timeline starts, the focus won't be on any of the text entries.

Initially this wasn't working for me (I'm not sure why) so:

I placed 3 text entries on a new layer. I inserted a shape on that layer, but placed it "offstage (not on the slide) AND I placed it at the bottom of the timeline, under all the text entries.

I placed a trigger on the base layer to show this new layer when the timeline starts

Please shout out with any questions!

Hi Javier,

Taking a quick lunch break and saw your reply. Please take a look at the attached. I've created a new slide (slide 2 "Becky's slide") where the focus is as you want it (that is, no insertion point in either text entry box). To be sure it was working properly, I created a 3rd slide that references the variables.

Note of Interest: I could NOT get yours to work. I created my slide in a new story and C/P it here. I actually had to redo the text variables, however, when I pasted it into your story since for some reason they copied twice and messed things up.

Not sure 'sup with your slide...odd...corrupt maybe? Not sure if one slide can be corrupt, so just throwing something out there .

Back to work!
