Text Entry - Size Difference between Populated text and Typed Text

May 09, 2016

Hi,

I'm trying to sort out why the populated text on all my text entry boxes are always a lot smaller then the typed text. It's highly inconsistent...

Here is an example;

Storyline slide view;

Preview of same "pre-populated" text;

Type text entry;

Format shape; (I've tried every autofit option)

Font Size/Type;

Hi Rob,

Without seeing the exact file, it's difficult to say for certain - but my first thought is in regards, to how you may find that text changes size when it includes a variable reference, depending on the length of the variable's current value. This is by design to ensure that the text is always visible to learners, no matter how lengthy it is.

For example, let's say you're using a variable to display text, then you update the variable with new text at a specific point on the timeline or during an interaction. Depending on the length of the text, it may shrink to fit within its container.

To avoid shrinking variable text, make the text box big enough to accommodate the longest variable value.

There are a few known issues with text entry currently as detailed here. Our team is investigating those, so we'll keep you posted once there is any additional information.
