Text Entry with possible alternate answers

Jan 07, 2021

Hi, hoping you can help.

I'm creating a 'try mode' simulation in Storyline 360, using one of our firm's applications. In this application, when the user types in a response in the field, let's say it's - Additional state returns - does it matter if the user types this phrase in using initial caps - Additional State Returns - or; let's say the field should include a number - 10,000 - can it be input, in the sim, as 10000 - and be correct? Keep in mind this is a try mode simulation, so I assume that whatever is typed in the field when recording is what is needed to be typed in by the 'learner' when they're taking this sim. Can you confirm this?

Thank you.

Hi Carol,

If you are carrying out a comparison to see if a text entry is correct, you will need to provide all possible options as the variable is case-sensitive. This can be done easily with several conditions in a single trigger. For example:

With regards to your numbers, if you use a numerical rather than a text entry, the user will only be able to enter physical numbers and no commas, so in your example, the only option will be 10000.
