Just preparing my first course with Storyline. I'm reviewing one of my completed sections in the Player, which I've already customized. In the player, if I roll my mouse over a text box, the text highlights. How do I remove this. These are non-interactive text boxes and having the text highlight on rollover will be confusing to learners. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Are you using the standard Storyline player or did you create your own with the Storyline SDK? I'm not sure I understand where the text boxes in the player are - but we're unable to offer support for the Storyline SDK, and you may want to post this query in the forum specific to SDKs and APIs.
If you're using the built in Storyline player, and still have questions could you include a sample or screenshot of what you're referring to?
I am using the built in Storyline player. The rollover highlight happens on all text -- text boxes, question screens, etc. I've attached 2 different screen shots for you. It will be confusing to learners who will wonder why the text is highlighted and if there is some interaction supposed to happen. This is all just flat text so I want to remove the highlight. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Thanks for sharing the screenshots - and based on the images you shared, there are two highlights I see. The player menu has a highlight associated with the slide that the user is currently on. The second highlighting is on the slide itself and I see the highlight associated with the text boxes themselves. Without seeing the actual file, I'm guessing that there is something added to that element such as a "hover" state or previously hyperlinked? If you'd like to attach a few sample slides here, we're happy to take a look at your .story file in regards to the text boxes that are highlighting.
I'm so new to Storyline, I'm not quite sure how to just attach a few sample slides. Perhaps I should create a new project and copy and past a few slides into it?
What is odd is that this highlight happens on every screen in every text text box. I did not set up any hover state. Is it a defaut when creating a text box?
A new project works - or if you want to import a few slides out into a new project as described here, that'll work well. You can then attach it here using the paperclip icon.
Every screen and every text box - makes me wonder about a few other things. Did you initially create this in Powerpoint and import into Storyline? Also, can you confirm that you're following along with the guidelines here about working locally?
So grateful for the help. I followed the directions and have attached 4 slides imported from my original project. And to answer your questions, I built the entire project in Storyline; I did not import from PowerPoint. And yes, I am working on my local hard drive. I look forward to your feedback.
Thanks for sharing the file. When I right clicked in a number of the text boxes, there was an indication that there was a hyperlink and choosing "remove hyperlink" resolved the display behavior. I attached an update copy of your file here.
Thank you so much. I have no idea how I managed to put it in there, but I'll remove the rest of them now. And now I can continue with the project keeping an eye on this going forward. Again, so appreciate the help. It is a great tool and I'm enjoying learning it, but there is so much to figure out. Grateful to have a place to pose questions.
I found this post from Laura. I'm in a similar situation as Laura. In my case, the highlights appear after I edit the text box. I've imported a translated file. If I don't touch anything, nothing highlights. When I edit the box to fit the new text, suddenly, the text is highlighted.
I've checked a few of the boxes, and they suggest there are hyperlinks. When I remove the hyperlinks, all is good. However, there are some text boxes that have the highlights, but no evidence of a hyperlink.
How can I fix this without adjusting all of the boxes several times? The highlighting only shows up on preview and publish.
Have you confirmed that you're working with local project files as described here?
Does it show up every time after you make an edit? As with Laura's situation, once the hyperlink elements were removed everything worked as expected going forward. You mentioned you're importing in a translated file, was it within Word or another Storyline file? Did you check that file to see if there was any odd formatting left over that could be contributing to the hyperlink set up?
1) Import the translated Word document (I've checked - there are no strange formatting issues in the word document).
2) I open the file in Storyline, and preview it (Spanish). There are no highlights on rollovers anywhere that I can see.
3) I edit some text boxes (make them longer to accommodate the translated text). In some cases, all I do is click on the box in error.
4) Preview/publish the file, and there are no highlights when I roll over the text.
5) Looking at the source, there are some highlighted boxes that register as 'hyperlinks' which I can remove. In other cases, I can't determine why there are issues and determine what to fix.
After adjusting two textboxes on this screen in step 3, my file looks like Sample2.story. Remember that you have to preview before you can see the highlighted text.
I have a lot of text boxes to tweak, and the extra step is a bit aggravating under our deadlines for translated files.
I only see the highlight in step 2 on Sample2.story file. Does this also happen for you on files that aren't imported in with the translation document? Could you share one of the Word translation files - that matches this slide so that I could take a look at that too?
The highlights are on the intro paragraph and step 2 of the Sample2.story file I sent you. They are the only two text boxes on that screen that need to be adjusted for the language. I have about 100 other text boxes to adjust in the course, but I can't share the whole thing with you.
Since my last comment, I have cleanly removed Storyline from my hard drive and reinstalled a clean, current copy.
Now, all I need to do is click on a textbox and it goes from a clean run to the highlighted version.
Thanks for the translation document. So to clarify, this now happens in brand new files you're starting as well or only when using a file that you're importing in translated content? I want to make sure I'm following your steps exactly to try and recreate on a new file.
Also, you mentioned removing Storyline, did you go through the repair steps here?
So... In my work on the weekend, I've discovered a few things:
1) The hyperlinks that appear when I resize, change font size, etc in the text box may apply to only one word or one character.
2) I still have difficulty in some text boxes finding the hyperlink. I've discovered that if I ignore the spelling errors, then the hyperlink 'is found' when I select a portion of the text.
I'd appreciate if you can find a solution, or help for me to avoid the hunt and chase of the hyperlinks in this storyline file.
Thanks for the video - I see the same behavior when testing your files, but I wanted to go through adding in some imported translation text myself, so since that's the only way you see it that's what I've tried. I can't get the same behavior to occur - so what I'd like to take a look at to try and see what's occurring in your file, is an original file prior to translation, and then one of your translated Word docs (I can use the one from before), so that I can test your translation and mine to see which causes the behavior or if it's inherent to the file itself.
Thanks for sending along this file. I tested it again using your original translation word doc, and one I exported out myself - and when importing them both in, they both don't have the behavior with the hyperlinking.
I did a bit more digging to see if I could find any other similar issues and what they did to resolve it, and I found one case where it was reported to our team in regards to the translation import - but it was only seen in update 5 of Storyline. We're currently on Update 8 - can you let me know what update you're using? You can download update 8 here.
Hi. The hyperlinks appear after I touch/move/resize the text boxes. Not before. Have you tried to do that? Every single text box on the slide I sent you becomes a strange hyperlink when I click on the text box.
The hyperlink is only obvious when I run the file after 'touching' the text boxes.
I'm using Storyline Update 8 (and have checked that it's the latest version several times now.) The about box says I'm using update 8: 1412.921
No one else in our organization has reported this issue when importing files, but I'm the first one to be seeing this. I still need a solution.

Hi Ashley:
Yes, I'm working with a local Storyline file.
Here are my steps:
1) Import the translated Word document (I've checked - there are no strange formatting issues in the word document).
2) I open the file in Storyline, and preview it (Spanish). There are no highlights on rollovers anywhere that I can see.

Hi Ashely:
Me again. I'll show you with this sample slide...
After step 1, my file looks like Sample1.story
After adjusting two textboxes on this screen in step 3, my file looks like Sample2.story. Remember that you have to preview before you can see the highlighted text.
I have a lot of text boxes to tweak, and the extra step is a bit aggravating under our deadlines for translated files.
Thanks Anita for the files.

Hi Ashley:
Me again. I've attached a video showing the issues I'm having with this file.
Hi Ashley:
Yes, I removed Storyline, rebooted, cleaned the registry and rebooted again before I install.
If you check out the video I attached (hopefully it's not too big), you can see my steps exactly.
Let me know if it is too big.

Oops pressed post to early.
3) When I fix the hyperlink in the first paragraph of the text box, the hyperlink 'moves' to another paragraph.

Hi.
I've attached the English version of the slide I sent you earlier.
I have what I need to deliver today fixed, but it wasn't pretty, and I have a lot more grey hairs too.
If you can resolve this/help me find a work around, it will be great because the next time will be a bigger course.
Thanks
Hi Anita,
