Text is highlighting in preview (screen uses hotspots)
Jun 19, 2013
In preview mode, a block of text on my screen is showing highlighting when I hover my mouse over it. The text box looks quite normal when I've checked its properties. In the timeline, however, it says 'end' next to it. I'm not sure if that means anything, because I rarely do anything in the timeline. ('End' is at the top of the timeline; is it normal for 'end' to appear there?)
My screen includes three freeform hotspots on one image (reasonably close together) and one rectangular hotspot on another image. The freeforms are above this textbox and the rectangle is to the left of it. I'm not sure if these are interfering with the text box in any way, though they are a reasonable distance from them. (There is another textbox which appears fine.) I'm also mentioning the hotspots because for some reason the third one wasn't creating a trigger. I ended up just pressing undo and redo at one point and then it created it, so it's all a bit weird!
I hope you can help!

Hi Jacinta,
Sounds a bit strange. Does the text or shape with text have any states, or button sets assigned to it?
If you'd like, you're welcome to share the .STORY file here. I'd be happy to take a peek and see what's going on.
Thanks!
Hi Christine.
No states. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by button 'sets', but, no. It is just a regular text box, though I don't know if I could have accidentally applied something to it!
I've attached a copy of the screen.
Cheers.
Hi Jacinta!
Ok! That was totally new for me :) Hadn't seen that type of behavior with a text box that had no effects applied to it.
Did you copy and paste that content into the slide, from an outside document, by any chance? It's almost like it had a hyperlink attached to it at some point and broke when it was separated. Not sure if that's what caused it, but that's how the text was behaving.
I eventually pasted the text into a document outside of Storyline and reinserted it with plain text formatting and that seems to have fixed the issue. I'm sure I didn't format it exactly the way you had it, but it should behave for you now :)
Let me know if you see any other problems with this.
Thanks!
Hi Christine.
Thanks for that. I was obviously looking for complicated answers as I didn't even think to do something as simple as that! Yes, I had pasted it from an external document. I'm not sure about it ever having a link attached to it, but it is definitely fixed now.
Thank you!
Glad to hear it, Jacinta!
I hope you had a great weekend :)
Thanks!
