Text typing simulation has been missed on screen recording.

May 29, 2019

Hello, I am recording software simulations, and using View mode as the output.

I have mixed success with my captures when it comes to text entry capture.

  • Some of the fields in software I am recording have picked up the full text entry as a screen recording on a single step.
  • Some have captured the first few letters then it jumps to the completed text box shown as static on the next slide.
  • One even had only the first letter as a typing animation then the rest appeared completed on the following slide.

I am using v3.26 with ie 11 and saving to my local machine.

Any suggestions of:

a) How to capture in a way that mitigates the issue?

b) How to avoid recapturing and enter a fake text entry animation on the slide that failed (I can only find something that looks like an interactive quiz text entry field)?

Thanks

Hi Sheridan,

I'd start by updating to the latest, greatest version of Storyline 360, build 3.28.18944.0

Also, it's good that you're recording in Internet Explorer 11 as that'll report more data to Storyline than browsers such as Chrome.

Are the applications you're recording web-based as well? It may be that the various applications and tools are not reporting the text in the same way. An easy way to test this out is to record something basic like a web search or even typing text into an Excel document different fields.

You can also use the steps outlined here to edit your screen recording after it's been added into Storyline.
