The data entry box would be for the user to type in information, and as such I don't believe there is a way to call the information in as a variable reference. If you have the user enter the information in earlier, you could then use what they entered into a data entry text box as a variable later in the course.

I have a client who wants a text entry box on a screen to collect the number that a learner will enter. How can I display this in a later slide? When I added a text entry box, it created a trigger, but I'm struggling to figure out the variable to use.

Perhaps this tutorial is what you are looking for. A variable reference is perhaps what you are missing to achieve this.
