You are asking about which course I'm unable to understand perhaps you forget to attach the .storyfile, by the way the problem occurs only in the case if the story file does't save properly or copied properly.
I know which course I am trying to open. This is the error msg. I get when trying to open this file. So if there was a problem when saving/copying then how would I recover this file?
This error can occur when a .story file is not worked on and saved locally, but instead to a network or USB drive which causes unusual behavior as described here.
If importing it into a new project as detailed here didn't allow you to open the .story file, it sounds like the file may be corrupt and unusable. If you'd like us to give it a try, we're happy to take a look as well. You can share the .story file here with us or I can send you directions on how to send it to me privately.

Try importing into a new course or restore a backup
