While I can't see the full error message, it sounds like you may be using an older version of Storyline. You might want to check to make sure you are using the latest version of Storyline which you can find here.
I did some further research, and it appears that error only comes up when the file was created in a newer version of Storyline than the one you're currently working in.

This doesn't appear to be correct. I am attempting to open/edit a project on the same computer, using the same installation of Storyline, and receiving this message. The project was created on Friday, August 2 and I'm getting this error today. No updates were installed between these dates.
