Time before loading spinner shows.

Hi there,
I have over 40 Storyline courses loaded up on Moodle.
The client's complaint is that it takes almost 10 seconds before the loading spinner shows then another 10 seconds before the course shows. They are fine with it taking 20 seconds to load but 10 seconds with no indication that anything is happening gets learners clicking all over the place. is there a setting or something that can be done after publishing to get the spinner to show up immediately and not 10 seconds later?
Whatever the fix is, I have to do it to 40 courses. :-(

Hi Rob,
Are you seeing the same behavior when testing? Have you looked at what browser or set up they're using to view the courses? Here is how Storyline preloads content, so you could always look at having a starter slide indicating it's loading.
I'd also suggest testing it outside your LMS in a site such as SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing LMS content. If this course loads normally for them, you may also want to reach out to your Moodle team.
Thanks Ashley
as always, you are so quick to reply!!!
This was very helpful! Every one of these courses starts with an embedded 30-60 sec intro video (MP4).
I will add a loading slide right off the bat and see if that fixes it up.
Thanks again!!!
Keep us posted if that helps or if testing it in SCORM Cloud presents any difference either. You may also want to find out what browser they're using to view the course, and suggest they use one of the supported browsers here.
Interesting.
So I added a "loading" slide at the very beginning for 5 seconds then it auto advances to the video slide.
This worked great in SCORM cloud. the spinner showed up instantly and quickly jumped to the "loading" slide after about 2secs.
However, in Moodle, it still took 7 secs before the spinner showed, then another 8 secs of spinner before the loading screen.
it appears to be a Moodle caching thing as the second time I launched the course in Moodle, it went to the first slide without any delay or spinner.
Not sure how we deal with this.
We're using latest version of Chrome and the Moodle host is quite fast normally
Hi Rob,
Definitely interesting results. Have you reached out to Moodle to see if they had any thoughts on the caching issue and ways to prevent it? If it's working normally in SCORM Cloud, then you'll want to share those results with your Moodle team.
I am sure this is a Moodle related problem, I am not sure how it works but expect it is authenticating and initialising the scorm player
Rob,
Please keep us posted what you find out from Moodle as I know it's a common LMS for many users here.
