Timeline and variables

Jun 18, 2015

Hi,

We have a slide with 3 textboxes (t1, t2 and t3) and two arrows (a1 and a2).

For controlling the textboxes and the appearance of the arrows we use a variable: telTekst. We have set up the following sequence of triggers:

- When the timeline starts, set variable telTekst = 1

- If variable telTekst becomes <= 1 hide Arrow 1

- If variable telTekst becomes > 1 show Arrow 1

- If variable telTekst becomes >= 3 hide Arrow 2

- If variable telTekst becomes <3 show Arrow 2

- If variable telTekst becomes == 1 show t1

- If variable telTekst becomes != 1 hide t1

- If variable telTekst becomes == 2 show t2

- If variable telTekst becomes !=2 hide t2

- If variable telTekst becomes == 3 show t3

- If variable telTekst becomes !=3 hide t3

This seems to work for the first slide. However, it doesn't work for the second slide. We tried to solve this problem by using cue points, but we cannot find a way to set a variable on reaching a cuepoint. How can we fix this?

Thanks!

It is possible to set a variable on reaching a cuepoint.

  1. Create a cuepoint on the timeline
  2. Create a trigger 'Adjust Variable' and select the variable you want to change upon reaching the cue point
  3. In the 'When' drop-down, select 'Timeline Reaches'
  4. Click on the 'Time' drop-down, and select 'Cue point' instead

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your anwer. We already tried this option, but this is not working, because the variable telTekst was not set to 1 on 0 s (the cue point). It seems like the timeline lasts for the whole scene instead of one single slide, so we cannot set the variable teltekst to 1 "when the timeline starts" at each single slide. That's the reason why we used a cue point to adjust the variable, but this is not working..

Hi,

We tried this.

We tried with using a que point on 0s after start of the slide, and also on 1s after start of the slide, and also directly on reaching some time in the timeline.

The strange thing is: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems the first time we change something and try it works, then when we replay the scene it doesnt.

In the end i think the question boils down to:

How can we reliable assign a fixed value to a variable on the start of each slide?

Is there some kind of cache in articulates player?

Thnx again, Frans
