timeline menu issues SL2

Apr 18, 2018

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me with a fix which I thought would be simple.

I'm creating a course for a client in SL2 and the main menu has several buttons which each link to a separate section of the course(pretty standard).

I've created different states for each menu button (hover/visited and completed).

The client is wanting each menu button to appear one at a time to control where the learner goes and so they complete the curse in a specific order.

For example learner clicks on the first button ('about this course') when returning to the menu the button state changes to visited and the next button appears.

I've created a trigger which pauses the timeline after a few seconds and then resumes it if the button state changes to 'visited'.

The problem I'm having is that I can't get beyond the second button on the menu displaying. I'm aware that the triggers work in order so not sure if it's an error with this or an issue with how I've created conditions.

Also, unsure if I'm over complicating things and there's a simpler way to do this?

Attached is an abbreviated version of my course with all the triggers copied.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hi Steven,

This is a common request, and I have had to do something similar for most of my clients.

I tend to use states and variables. The idea is that your buttons are set to hidden (or disabled state so they can see what is coming) to start. The state of each button is set by a 'completed' variable that is adjusted once the learner gets to the end of the previous scene.

Have a look at the attached. I've made a start on the first couple of buttons.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi Len,

Thanks for this - and once you explained it it's obvious.

The menu is working now.

I do have another issue with this course:

Prior to this menu screen the user will click on a button to determine their role (I am/am not a manager).

What I want is for the 'Managers responsibilities' to show only if they have clicked 'i am a manager' and if they clicked on 'i'm not a manager'  the quiz to show.

The quiz button will then link to one of 2 quizzes again depending on what button they click to start with.

Do you know if there's there a simple way of doing this?
