I am working in Storyline 2. I am trying to add shapes on top a video at certain points in the video. However, I can't get the program to show the video when I scrub the timeline (when building). In this tutorial, it shows the person dragging the timeline scrubber and the video moving with it. But, mine does not do that. Can anyone help? Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the link to that video. I see that was created in Storyline 1 - so I took a look at the behavior differences between SL1 and SL2. It seems that SL2 is a bit slower in terms of scrubbing through the timeline and doesn't update the video on the screen as well as the version I tested in SL1. It still works - but just not as smoothly. I've shared this with our QA team to see if it's by design in terms of how SL2 is handling video or something that they could look into. I don't have a time frame to offer in regards to when I'll hear back from them, but I'll share any updates or information here once it's available. In the meantime, please know that you can scrub the timeline using the playhead as Mike shows in that video - it's just a bit slower.
Yes, the timeline scrubber is much, much slower and sometimes it does not move the video at all. I think this would be a great item for your QA team to look in to and potentially fix with an update.
I have a new copy of Storyline and just saw a similar video where the user scrubbed the timeline. My head exploded. I Googled and ended up here. While being able to scrub through video would be "nice to have" I would be absolutely over the freaking moon if I could scrub through any timeline. It would save me having to make layers invisible to check things underneath (then forgetting to toggle them back) and having to check everything in Preview. Trying to "play" in the Timeline takes so long to start I never even bother anymore--I just use Preview.
I see the issue is still with our QA team - but the scrubbing does work, just slowly and not necessarily real time. Once there is additional information to share we'll provide the update here.
What Storyline update and version are you using? What type of video have you insert - and did you use it as a video from a file or from website, web object? The latter won't work with any timeline preview as they're linking to the external website. Web objects also won't appear while previewing the slide itself using the Preview button.
Hello, has there been any resolution to this issue? I am using Storyline 360 and the video file initially links to the timeline then it stops linking the two together. This makes it very difficult to do moving hotspots within the video.
Sorry that's happening! I haven't seen this reported for Storyline 360, so want to make sure I understand exactly what you're experiencing. Could you tell me more about the steps you performed and how the timeline and video are not linked?
Also, since you've got Articulate 360, it would be really helpful if you could record a Peek of the behavior. Thanks!
Hey, i'm experiencing this issue too with storyline 360. Has there been any update? I can record a screenshot if not ... where should I send this to once complete?
Hey Emma! Thanks for adding your voice here, I'm sorry this has been causing trouble for you too.
I'm not sure if Nathan reached a resolution, but I'd love to see what's happening first hand. Recording a Peek would be a great idea! You can feel free to either attach the mp4 to a comment here, or share your Review link to the video in a comment.
If you'd rather share it privately, you can do so directly with our Support Engineers here too!
Good call to submit a case! I see my teammate, Cleo, has replied with some next steps. Keep at it with him to find a solution, and I'll follow along to provide any relevant insight here!

I submitted a report to them - so I'll update you here if I have any additional information to share.

Hi I'm having the same issue with Video not scrubbing on timeline. This was first flagged 2 years ago - is this not going to be fixed ever?
As for working slowly it is not working at all as far as i can tell. Been over 20 minutes and no update to timeline image.

I am having the same issue in SL360. I'm going to submit a ticket as I can't post proprietary content here.
