Timer in Story line
Aug 27, 2014
Hello,
I am trying to add a Timer function in storyline that is the same as the Timer that was created in Articulate Presenter.
In the picture below you can see how the Timer in Articulate Presenter looks, the Timer also stops when the user pauses the player.
What I want to do is mirror the same look and functionality as the Timer in Presenter. I know and tried the Timer function in Storyline Question slide has a built in timer but I can't get it to work the same, it does not stop on pause and is located on the far right side of the player.
Any Advise?

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately the Storyline quiz timer would be the only option currently. Some users have created custom timers, but they would not appear on the player itself.
Here are some discussions and examples that may help:
Here's How Easy It Is to Add a Time Limit to Your Storyline Quiz
storyline slide timer - E-Learning Heroes
Timer or count down that controls feedback? - E-Learning Heroes
Timer to use in Storyline - E-Learning Heroes - Articulate
Free Storyline file: pre-built, user-defined timer - E-Learning Heroes (not quite the same - but still pretty cool)
Hope that helps - and if you'd like to see changes to the built in Storyline player, please feel free to share your thoughts here.
forgive me for adding to an expired feed but my question goes right along with this one. I have a quiz as a scene inside of a module. Only the slides that are part of the quiz are selected, and i've selected begin timer with first question. The problem i am running in to is that it is beginning the timer at the beginning of the entire project, not the initial quiz slide.
Hi Amy,
No apologies necessary - that's why we keep threads live.
Do you have more than one results slide included in your course? I know of a current issue where multiple results slides are using the same timer throughout (and therefore you see it across more than just the designated slides) Are you using Storyline 1or 2? I also just wanted to confirm that you're adding it as shown here as a part of the results slide. If you're still having difficulty I think we may need to take a look at the .story file to see how it's set up?
Yes. Under Step 4, I've followed those instructions. However it is not
working correctly. The timer is instead starting at the first question
in the entire project versus the first selected question
Hi Amy,
The timer is for all questions associated with a results slide, so there isn't a way to determine which specific question it starts with, but if it's starting on a content slide, that sounds like something that we'd want to take a look at.
Hi Could any one tell me how to add timer to each slide in storyline 2, so i will know how long the course duration
Hi Karolyn
the option is on the result slide but allows you to choose if you want the timer to start on the 'first' content slide or the 'first question' slide.
Here is a tutorial to help you - specifically Step 4
Thank you ,
But i dont want it on the quiz , i want to know if the time stamp
on each slide, which will help me to know the remainign duration of
the course
Regards
Karolyn Godwin.
There is no inbuilt timer for course duration in Storyline what I shared above would be one workaround. See attached sample file.
Someone else may chime in to help you. Good luck with your project.
