Timer is altering my text entry

The problem I have is that, the text entry I have in the slides, which I need to fill in, is not working good.  Well, I can still fill the text entry a bit but it keeps on restarting (it restarts every second - which is the same as the timer). I figured that the timer is altering  the text entry. I did try to take the timer off the slide, and the text entry works well. Is there anyway I can simultaneously use both the timer and the text entry in a slide?
