I am producing a sales games where I want the player to select a response to certain scenarios in a timed, pressured environment.
How do I go about timing the selection of a rsponse (from a choice of 3 or 4) and show a countdown on screen? I will then make their response accrue points via the variables tool, snd if they run out of time, I want them to accrue minus points!
Hope someone can help as I have seen this done in some examples out there.
You can subtract any amount of points from your numeric score variable when the timeline ends
To visualize it you need to create a numeric timer variable that you will count down. You could do this by assigning a new value, or subtracting 1 point every second. If you're working with Storyline 1 you need to do this with off-slide objects and can have the subtract/assign trigger fire when the timeline of the off-slide object starts. If you've got Storyline 2 life is simpler as you can assign these actions to the position of the timeline itself.
Thanks Michael - there is some useful stuff in this thread - I have already seen how to use the simple clock version and adapted it for my game - thanks

Here is a thread that discusses options for custom timers.
Hi Mike,
I did the same thing here in using SL2: http://www.seriouslearning.nl/challenges/CH51/story.html
Thnks for this - your example looks great and I can't wait til I get Story2 in a few weeks!
Will have a go at the S1 option for now.
Thanks for quick response
