Tin Can settings for additional reporting functionality

Hi Gurus,

Apparently, Tin Can has more reporting capabilities, and has the "ability to record any relevant activity, any mouse click, answer, etc. (SCORM can only track quizzes and completion statuses by contrast)".

Is there a setting in Storyline 2.0 where I can set the Tin Can output to feed this extra information (ie, relevant activity, mouse click, answer, etc) to the LMS?

Thank you!

Hi Victoria,

The Tin Can API output won't necessarily work with your LMS, so the first step is to check if your LMS is set up for Tin Can API (also called xAPI, which is short for Experience API).

Then you'll need to do a bit of reading. These article/sites should get you started:

Publishing Articulate Storyline 2 Content for Tin Can API

How to send Tin Can statements with javascript

Tin Can API

Hope that helps!

At this stage, yes, that is a fair assumption.

To make the most of the Tin Can API you'd need to be able to create your own statements. Even if you aren't a programmer, it shouldn't be too hard to get started, but you will need to dedicate a bit of time to learning how it works.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance and sorry it isn't as easy as clicking a 'send mouse click activity' button.

My pleasure and thank you as well, you've encouraged me to look deeper into the Tin Can API.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit that while I've been watching from the sidelines for years, I haven't really wrapped my head around the possibilities. So this discussion has been helpful for me as well.

Let me know how you get on and I'm interested to see what you come up with!

Thanks Matthew. I'm not really interested in programming, unless my company really needs it and will supply me with the resources (time) to study it.

I am also studying full-time so don't have the bandwidth for personal time study, either.

I will investigate your links though, and I do appreciate your help!
