Total Variable Trouble

Oct 21, 2019

Hello All,

I have created a course that uses totals to answer scenario questions through a scoring scale. The user adds the numbers with a %Total% at the end. The first scenario works fine. The second, however pulls the total from the first scenario. When I click my reset button, it zeroes it out, but will not add again.

How do I get each scenario to reset the total to 0 and allow the user to add again? I have tried resetting the Total variable to 0 when the timeline starts.

My file is attached without failed fixes in place.

Thank you.

The way I typically do this is to set all the variables to zero when the timeline starts.  You did this except for the TOTAL, so add a trigger to set that to zero as well when the timeline starts.

Then, on the RESET button, you can remove all the triggers except one, make it a JUMP to slide 1.3 (you specifically set the jump to slide itself so it is saying "come here anew").

Lastly, change the slide setting to "Reset to initial state" when revisiting.

This has the cool effect of not only setting everything to zero, but making your layer hide without needing additional triggers.

  1. On the HOME tab > Tab Order, you can set a default for how the TAB key proceeds.  So when the user clicks on the first box, they could opt to hit the TAB to go from box to box quickly, some users really appreciate details like that!

I deleted all the entries except for the Numeric Entry boxes and the "calculate" and "reset" buttons at the end, and it works very nicely now.

  2. Your project is working as expected for me.  When i click the reset icon, it restarts the scene so the calculate button works each time.
