Track progress mysteriously changes after publishing

Sep 14, 2014

Lately I have noticed something odd (and disturbing) happening when I republish a course: if the course was previously published with the "track quiz result" option selected, it reverts to "number of slide views" when next published.

This has happened at least twice, on different computers each time and with the most recent update installed.

I'm a bit perplexed, since I always assumed the selection would stay fixed between publishes.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Hi Sarah,

That does sound odd, and I haven't experienced it myself. Are you changing anything else when republishing the file, such as the other LMS publishing/reporting options or removing slides, elements?

Since I haven't seen it myself, or heard it reported before, I'd suggest you start with the following:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Does it only happen with this one file? I'd suggest importing it into a new project to resolve any odd behavior.  If the behavior persists or occurs on multiple files, please try conducting the repair of Storyline as well.

Hi Ashley

It's happened on two different files that I can remember.

I'm publishing to my hard drive but within a Dropbox folder. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. The directory path may be the issue - they can get rather long sometimes.

I'll keep an eye on this - if it happens again, I'll note as many variables as possible to see if we can isolate and/or replicate the issue.

Hi Sarah,

Dropbox is typically a local install - so I know a lot of users keep files there when working and publish to there as well. It's worth looking into to confirm you have installed it locally and the file path/name.

Please definitely keep us posted if you run into this again either here in the forums or you can also always connect with our Support engineers.
