Thanks for posting your question here. When you click on the "Transitions" tab of the ribbon at the top of the Storyline application, this allows you to add a transition to a Slide layer.
There's a lot of options to choose from, and it can definitely give your course a smoother look and feel and avoid that lurch-y jump between slides that can happen.
You can add a different transition to every layer on a slide, or add none, or keep them all consistent.. it's totally up to you. Here's a few additional tutorials and links:

I added a transition to the layer - just a fade in you could maybe look at that. Hard to say what will work without seeing your story file
