Translation from french to english

I followed the tutorial steps from David (export word file, import word file containing the translation, congratulations) but there is no result. Nothing has been translated.

What can be the reason? I have 159 slides in total.

Hi Al,

You're following the steps outlined here?  Also, you're working on all local project files (the Storyline and Word files)? Have you looked to confirm that the column with the ID didn't have any changes within the translated file?

Hi Al,

Thanks for sharing the document here - although I'm a bit confused? This set up looks like the two columns have the same text, so I'm not sure where the translation is? I'll need to see the version with the original text in the middle column and then your translation in the far right column. Also, I'd need to see your original Storyline file as well to be able to see what happens when I try importing this.

I forwarded the document TO BE translated from french to english, so you can try it yourself. The middle column does contain the original text. When I translated the original document, everything was translated.

The translation process into SL went OK but no results after the "congratulations" pop-up.

The project is very heavy (158 slides up to now) but I'm trying now to use a system with "states" for all objects where I have a state for "french" and one for "english". Sounds good.

I have now a new question : is it possible to change the player status from french to english by the user ? (I have two players versions already but I wonder how to switch from one to the other by a language variable condition).

Hi Al,

I'd still need the Storyline file to try the translation element - so I'll send you directions on how you could share the file with me privately as it may be too large for the forums. 

The system with states sounds like a good idea though and a way to work within one course. You could also look into a branched course so that the user selects their language at the beginning. There isn't a way to change the player language by user, so you'd need to set up a more customized "player" look by creating slides that serve as a menu, resources, and with your own navigation buttons, etc.
