Trigger does not change button state

Apr 23, 2019

Hi Guys.

I have spent all day trying to figure this one out and cannot see where I am going wrong.

I want the users to click the custom button only when they have visited all objects on the layer.

I have set the initial state of the custom button to hidden.

I created 4 clickable numbered points and made them into a button set

I created a trigger to change the state of the custom button to normal when all 4 points have been visited by the user.

The custom button remains hidden

I have spent hours figuring out this one but no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions or workarounds? I need to finish this project asap. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Harry,

I have attached a basic example based on your post above. I'm not sure if it is exactly what you are doing, but when all four buttons are clicked (i.e. Visited), the Next button appears. I have set the four buttons up as a button set.

If the attached example doesn't resolve your issue, if you are able to post a copy of your Storyline file here, that would aid in problem solving.

Hi Ned

Thanks for your reply.

I have just found out that when I remove the layer on put it on a separate slide the whole thing works perfectly. But when it is included as a layer it stopped working after the trigger is applied to point 4.  Any ideas?

Am  I restricted to the number of triggers I can have on any one slide/layer?

Hi Harry,

I am a bit confused as there are no layers other than the base layer in the version that you sent through. I suspect when you were using the extra layer that you may have had a trigger attached to the extra layer that should have been on the base layer or visa versa.

If you still have an earlier version or can recreate an earlier version of your Storyline file with the extra layer and post it here, I will have a look.

Probably the two most common errors with triggers are firstly getting the order wrong and secondly placing them on the wrong layer.

In answer to your other question, I am not aware of any restrictions in the number of layers you can include in one slide (you can even go into triple figures if you really want to) or of the number of triggers you can include in a layer. Personally, I think if you are losing track of where you are going or where you have been in a particular slide, you probably have too many !
