Trigger's not working in Scene
Mar 15, 2018
Hi -
I am using Articulate Storyline 2.
When I preview the slide the triggers work correctly but when previewing the entire project or the scene the trigger will not work. I have tried everything I can think of to get it working. I have even deleted the slide and rebuilt it, still with no luck. The funny part is I have a different slide with the same combination of triggers and it works just fine. Any ideas?
The triggers are as follows - Change next button to hidden when timeline starts. Change next button to normal when state of all button 1 & button 2 are selected. Change state of button 1 to selected when user clicks button 1. Change state of button 2 to selected when user clicks button 2.

Hi Kelly
can you share your SL file please?
Hi Joanna,
Unfortunately for confidentiatilty reasons I cannot share my SL file I can however provide screenshots of the triggers...
Can you create a copy of your file, delete any sensitive content/branding from SL file and/or put lorem ipsum instead so just the functionality is there?
It's hard to say just from the screenshot why it's not working so it would be easier to help you having SL file.
Hi Kelly
as Joanna said it's hard to say without seeing your setup but it looks like you are trying to trigger one of SL built in states (selected). SL knows automatically to change an object's state to selected when the user clicks it and then deselects it when you click the same object again. Alternatively if you have a button set it means if you have two objects and click the first one it becomes 'selected' and then when you click the second object SL deselects object one and sets object two to selected state.
I would recommend you use the visited state and remove the selected triggers as I've highlighted
and change your Next button trigger to include the condition when state of Button 1 and Button 2 are VISITED.
You do not need to set triggers to change the state to Visited - SL will do that automatically.
Hi Wendy - I have tried with Down, Selected, and Visted. Unfortunately the result is the same with each state.
@Joanna - this is the best that I can send. I have removed all confidential information, leaving basically blank slides with triggers.
Hi Kelly
I didn't realise you were going from a hub slide to other slides then back again - the trigger should be 'when timeline starts' on condition x and y are visited.

Hi Wendy -
Thanks so much for the prompt response. That totally makes sense, however, when I applied it to my actual course it still isn't working. Any other suggestions?
Did you change the states to visited and not selected and remove the triggers? I changed the colour of your visited state so I could make sure they were working - also didn't I change the order of the triggers?
Yes m'am. I mirrored the triggers exactly, even changed the visited state color. The next button is just not going back into the Normal state.
Can you screenshot your trigger panel now that you made the changes
