Trigger to return to the base layer

May 21, 2013

Hi, I'm fairly new user and can't find the way to return to the base layer after viewing other layers. I set up tabs which act like buttons. They change state when clicked, show respective layers and hide base layer objects in the timeline when the layer is being shown. The triggers are set for each button to show different layers.

I have introduction on the base layer and I'd like to have an option for the user to click on "intro" button and return back to the base layer. I can not find the trigger that would do that. I attached my testing page for better idea.

Thank you,

Marina

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Marina!

Well, there's a few ways you can accomplish what you're after. The quickest and easiest way to to this, though, would be to apply a trigger to the "Intro" button that jumps to the same slide (1.1). You'll also want to set the revisiting settings for the slide to "Reset to initial state".

This way, when the learner clicks on the "Intro" button, they're taken back to the beginning of the slide, but it will simply appear as though they've simply moved back to the first section.

I modified your original file with these options and I'm attaching it, if you'd like to take a look.

Would this work for you?

Thanks Christine, this works, however I'd like the intro tab change its state to red when clicked, so the user knows which tab they are on. Resetting the slide resets the state and the tab remains blue as it's not active. My solution was to change the color of the tab on base layer to red and copy it to all layers with the same trigger, only on the other layers its color is blue. It get's a bit cumbersome, I thought there would be more elegant solution, but this can work as well. Thanks for your help.

Hi Marina,

I know you've already made those changes, and your changes look good! Just had a quick thought on this. How about making the initial state for the "Intro" button "Selected", instead? This way, when the user is on the Intro section, that button will always be red. When they visit other layers, it will be blue. When they come back to the "Intro", the button will appear red again.

Again, I know you've already made quite a few changes, just thought this would be a quicker option if you plan to do something similar in the future.

Attaching another modified version.

Thanks :D
