Trigger visited state for menu item while triggering normal state for next module

Dec 21, 2016

I have a course that I am putting together that has 6 modules.  I need to have learners progress through the course in order.  So I want the succeeding module to open when the preceding one concludes.  I also need the finished module to show as visited.  (I did create a new visited state.)

I bet this has all been asked before....

Can I use the same variable in 2 triggers?

Thank you!

Hi Tess

not sure I understand what you mean by use the same variable in two triggers.  It depends on what actions the triggers are doing to the variable.

The default visited state will be active as soon as the user clicks on the menu item so you shouldn't need triggers to 'change state to visited'.

  1. I would recommend creating 5 T/F variables one for each module 2 - 6 (eg. M2, M3, M4, M5, M6)
  2. On the main menu slide Set Module 1 to normal
  3. On the main menu slide Set Modules 2 - 6 initial state on the states tab to disabled.
  4. On the final slide of each Module set the relevant T/F trigger to True eg. Adjust variable M2 to value True  when (the timeline starts or ends or media completes depends on how you want to set it up)
  5. On main menu set trigger 'Change state of Module 2 to normal when timeline starts on main menu slide on condition that variable M2 = true
  6. Repeat points 4 and 5.
  7. Set Main menu slide property to resume saved state on revisit.

Hope that helps - if not upload your .story file and someone can help with your specific setup.
