This time, I have hidden the Next and Previous buttons and want them to appear when 4 slides are visited.
I set up 4 variables that are false, but triggered to turn to true when each slide is visited. However, when I go to the "home" page and try to create the trigger, the OK button won't activate, indicating I'm doing something illegal, I think.
Thank you for that; I had it on Automatically Decide, but when I changed it to Reset to Initial State, it indeed worked. However, now I have a NEW problem, as the reset makes the initial instructions play every time and I don't want that.
Could I have the Next button appear and somehow NOT reset the home page?
The big picture is that I want to have the learner visit 3 different SLIDES before they see the next button without going through the initial instructions every time. Any suggestions for doing this elegantly?
Create three T/F variables - one for each of those slides
Slide 1 - add trigger 'adjust variable xx to true when timeline starts on slide 1' - repeat for slides 2 and 3
On the Home slide where they come back to have the next button set to hidden or disabled when the timeline starts then add another trigger:
Change state of Next button to normal when timeline starts on home slide on condition that variables (slide1=true AND slide2=true AND slide3=true)
If the instructions are text, add another trigger to change state of Text box to hidden when timeline starts on homeslide on condition that variables (slide1=true AND slide2=true AND slide3=true).
If the instructions are audio, add trigger, stop media 'audio' when timeline starts on homeslide on condition that variables (slide1=true AND slide2=true AND slide3=true).
That is a brilliant idea, and I had done all of the above except for the last instruction. And because they keep going to the home page, I tried using "slide1=true OR slide2=true OR slide3=true" because once they have left the page I want the character and caption hidden. It's not working, though.
What am I doing wrong? Maybe it doesn't work on captions and characters?
Then whatever the trigger is for the character should also work for the caption. Check that the caption has the 'states' you are putting into your triggers.
Happy to have a look if you want to upload the .story file.
Well, kind of, Matthew. I had to take out all of the animations, which is not ideal. So, I guess you could say it was a workaround due to some limitations of the software.
And ideally, I would be able to have the home page in the mode of resume saved state, so I can have the buttons that have been selected keep their colour change - indicating they have been visited.
Which animations weren't working? I am not sure I'm seeing the same thing - as I saw black text (no pink or white) and the elements that were set to be animated did? I may be missing something as this thread got longer - but if you'd like us to take a look at something specific, let me know and I can dig a bit deeper.

Hi Victoria!
Looks like Matthew has popped in to assist you here. If you need us to take a look at your .story file, please feel free to share.

Hope that helps
Hey Wendy!

Hi Victoria
Maybe I'm not following:
Home slide
Ok, the character is working but not the caption text.
Home slide - 4 buttons that go to 4 different slides
Home button on each slide, when they go home they can choose another slide
Character and caption give instruction, so should only come up on initial visit.
So,
Then whatever the trigger is for the character should also work for the caption. Check that the caption has the 'states' you are putting into your triggers.

Aha! I turned the animations off of the caption and it worked! Apparently, it won't work with the intro animation. Does that make sense?
Hidden is an in-built state I do believe. It is already an option, I didn't have to add it.
Hi Victoria
see if this works for you
Wow! That works perfectly, and is basically what I have set up.
Mine is doing weird stuff, though. Now the text isn't showing.
I will upload it to show you.
Thanks so much, Wendy - you rock!
Hi Wendy - here it is and now the Introtext isn't even showing up!
Thanks again for your help - AGAIN! :-)
Hi Victoria
for some unknown reason - the text is there in that caption but it is white so that's why you can't see it.
I changed it to pink and now it displays - I would delete the caption and recreate it and see if that works
ew weird. If you look at it in normal view, it is black!
OK, now it works, but only if I don't use animations on the caption when it enters. Weird
Phew...that was a marathon - animations can be finicky...glad you sorted it out.
Thank you so much for all of your help, Wendy! You're the greatest!
Maybe the STAFF should know that animations are a problem in this kind of interaction.
