Play/ Pause trigger will work only for the media (video/sound) inserted in your slide. You'll find them in your Trigger panel under the Media part by which you can control your media video/sounds).
Am planning show both the elapsed time and total duration of the slide somewhere in the slide. I have done this using the javascript. But my concerns is, whenever user clicks the pause button on the player it should pause the elapsed time. For that i need to access the play/pause trigger.
Hope you understand my concern and help me out on this.

I have done this by replacing the default navigation buttons with my own. This way I could create my own pause/play button in Storyline. In addition to the play/pause trigger I added a JS trigger to the button to start/stop my JavaScript timer.
