I read an older post where it was stated you could add triggers to the slide master. I just tried adding a common trigger we're using across all slides but when I insert a new slide the trigger doesn't show up with it.
The triggers added to a Slide Master will only be visible in the Triggers panel for that master slide. When you are outside of the Slide Master view, the trigger will not appear in the triggers panel, but it WILL still work. So if you need to make an edit or change the trigger, you'll need to pop back into Slide Master view to do that. Hope this helps :)
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you would like to start building for your design. Remember slide masters are good to control the default themes, colors, fonts, text, and objects for slides throughout your course. They're big time-savers, letting you apply the same look and feel across multiple slides all at once.
You should be able to copy all the items on your slide and paste to a master slide to test if this method will work well for you and save some time.
Don't forget to apply the layouts prior to testing.
If I put some triggers on a Slide Master, will those triggers follow through from the parent to the child slides? I understand you cannot see them (which is kind of counter-intuitive) but will they play?
To answer your question yes the triggers will play BUT if you put a conflicting trigger for the same button e.g. Next button onto the slide - the slide trigger will be executed before the master slide trigger.
See attached very simple example.
On the master slide layout I set two triggers - if I run the slide that has this layout, the Next button is hidden on timeline start and changes to Normal state on timeline end - which in this layout is 5 seconds.
If I decide on one of the slides using this layout I want the Next button to be enabled at 2.5 seconds I add a trigger to the SLIDE using the layout and SL will execute the triggers in this order
Change state of Next button to hidden when timeline starts
Change state of Next button to trigger when timeline reaches 2.5seconds.
Because the Next button is changed at 2.5 seconds, the Master trigger to change at timeline end may execute but will make no difference.
For accessibility reasons I need to add audio controls to every slide in a course. There are clickable shapes for play, pause, stop and keyboard shortcuts too (the audio is most important for visually impaired people who can't see a shape to click on).
I can see that I can add these shapes and triggers to a master slide but I can't see how to link a master slide trigger to a slide element. By which I mean that each slide will have its own unique audio, created using the text-to-speech tool.
I can put the buttons and keyboard shortcuts onto the slide master, but because I can't then see them when editing the slide, I can't link use them to control slide elements.
Is there a workaround for this or can I only use master slide triggers for generic functions?
If you're adding those items to a slide master they'll need to refer to audio on the slide master. Instead, have you looked at using the player to add in the play/pause using the seekbar? As for the keyboard shortcuts, are they navigational elements? Will your learners be using any screen readers that would include this built-in?
Thank you (he said, five months later :) ) that was helpful at the time and I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner.
I found that by simply adding the audio and a background variable for audio on or off I could trigger audio to start automatically. The play/pause icons on the player (which for some reason I hadn't seen until I saw your post) mean that I don't have to worry about putting icons or triggers on the slide.
However, I would very much like to be able to link the pause/play icons on the player to a keyboard shortcut. I've seen that this is possible in Articulate Presenter, but I can't see it in Storyline 360. I now need to add a keyboard pause/play function and if I can do this on the player it will save me having to add it to each slide individually.
The space bar will act as a "Play/Pause" feature when the media is light boxed. If there is a certain key that you would like to use, you'll need to add a trigger that looks like this:

That explains things! This helps immensely with my interface design work.
Thanks Nicole.
Are there any limitations to this approach? How would I make an existing slide a master slide? I don't want to have to recreate all of these triggers.
