Trouble Searching the Forums

I'm having trouble searching the forums for posts relating to questions I have.  I always get the response that there are no results for the search.  I am pretty certain that somewhere in the mass of posts there is something with the term 'publishing' or 'publish' in it (!), so I think there must be something interfering with the search function.  I mostly use Firefox because our organization uses an outdated IE and won't change it until our Windows version is updated.  Is that the problem?  Any suggestions because it's very frustrating not being able to use the search function.
