I was editing a storyline course and when I tried to upload it today, I received a message " the storyline was locked by another process." If I locked it it was because I am a new user and don't know how I did it. How can I unlock it?
Welcome, Lise! Sorry for the trouble – you've come to the right place for help.
If you see the "Locked by Another Process" message, Alyssa shared these great initial troubleshooting steps for us to explore. Have you had a chance to see if any of those pointers helped resolve that error? 🤞
If so and you're still at this roadblock, would you mind sharing the .story file with our Support team so we can dig deeper? You can share it privately with the team by using this upload link. They'll give it a test, and will delete it after troubleshooting.
Thank you for this information! It just happened to me as well. I followed the instructions and it is working again. It would have been absolutely horrible if I hadn't been able to get this file open! Many thanks.
I just had this same thing happen. SL started running VERY slow and eventually I had to 'end task' because it was not responding in my Task Manager. I've copied the temp file to my desk top and changed the file extension to .story. I cannot open that file because it says it's corrupt.
I've now tried to import that file into an existing SL file only to get this error. How can I recover this file?
I have lost so much work with this file. SL has continually crashed on me throughout this project. I am so angry and I've wasted so much time working with this software.
Well, yes, I'm trying to save a lot of work. I can't share the file, as it as proprietary information in it. I ended up opening a support ticket, so maybe someone from Articulate will help me.

Sorry you ran into that error, Carley. Is your file saved to your local hard drive, or is it on a network drive?
There are a couple of things you can try:
If you're still getting stuck, send the file to our Support Engineers here, and we'll try a few things from our side!
Help please -- has worked great! Save often. now corrupt.
Hi Chris,
I just responded to a similar post of yours here if you'd like to keep the conversation going in one location.
I did attempt to open your file and import into a new file and I'm experiencing the same issue.
Hi Leslie! I am having the same issue with a course. I cannot edit anything except for text, and I do not see how it is locked :-(

Glad you were able to find what you needed, Patti.
Thanks for chiming in to share and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Hi Janelle
are you trying to import the corrupt SL file into a new / existing SL file or a PPT file into an existing SL file.
Can you share the SL file - maybe someone can try and help you. Which version/update of SL are you using.
Hi
Well, yes, I'm trying to save a lot of work. I can't share the file, as it as proprietary information in it. I ended up opening a support ticket, so maybe someone from Articulate will help me.
Good luck getting that sorted - hope it's an easy fix for you.
