I need some help with the attached story slide. I am trying to build true or false questions to build a crane. There are 15 questions on layers in the slide that count using variables. I don't know if it is because I built using layers instead of separate slides? Should I be using the quiz t/f slides and building the activity using branching? I spent a whole day looking at this activity and just wanted some input from others who know how Storyline works.

The original aim was not to have it graded but I am now building a version using the graded T/F slide. I'm just unsure how to build the branching to make the crane build correctly following the learners answers.
You might be better doing it as a Pick One with correct/incorrect buttons that sit off stage and user the variable counter to trigger when the correct or incorrect button changes state to selected - then that can submit the interaction.
You may want to do a spell check on the slide there are a lot of typos ;-)
Who doesn't like to look at an exploding crane problem on a Tuesday afternoon?
I'd be inclined to separate it out into individual slides just to make the workflow easier (i.e. less confusing!).
I've added the correct/incorrect variable adjustment to the 'continue' buttons on the feedback layers just for clarity, but you could change that. If it's on the feedback layer, make sure it's the first action on the button.
I've added the entire crane, with all parts and explosion hidden, to a layer - and a trigger on the question slide to show this layer when the slide starts (excluding the first one)*.
I also made your explosion more dramatic.
I've put ALL the triggers to show the crane parts on this layer - this means you can just duplicate this slide as many times as you like and change the question. The triggers are -
if CorrectAnswers =/> 1 SHOW Part1
if CorrectAnswers =/> 2 SHOW Part2
etc. And -
if IncorrectAnswers =/> 5 SHOW Explosion
So if you just duplicate slide 2 however many times and edit the questions, this should do what you want. And add a 'congratulations' something or other when CorrectAnswers=10, or however you want to finish it.
*Issues - the 'reloading' of the crane layer at the start of every slide. Not really sure what to think about that, and I'm about to go home, but it's not the best look.
