Try to change the state of an object on one slide using a variable triggered on another
Dec 19, 2014
My apologies for the long title. I have a button on one slide that when clicked, triggers a number of events, including changing a true/false variable from initial false to true. I have the variable referenced in a textbox so I can see that it is working.
Elsewhere on the same slide, I have a button that takes users to a new slide containing a number of objects, including an object in a hidden state. I want that object's state to change from hidden to normal IF the value of my variable (triggered on the other slide) = true. Everything looks like it should work, and yet...nothing. I made sure that all of my objects have unique names, that no objects are being reset when the slide displays. I suspect I am missing some fundamental step here, but I'm not sure what it is and studying other discussions is of limited value at my level of understanding.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Use a trigger to change state of object on timeline start on condition variable is equal to true.
Make sure the object for the trigger is the slide and not your hidden object.
I could be wrong but I expect you are using the when variable changes and this will not work.
Indeed, Phil, that was the fundamental step that I was missing! Many, many thanks!
Thanks for coming back to update us Jay and I'm glad Phil was able to assist here!
No problem, I'm thrilled that I understand how to do this now!
So glad I found this post! I too was using when variable changes. Now that I understand - it totally makes sense.! THANKS!
Glad you found it than too Terry! That's why we keep these old posts around. :)
