Trying to add a trigger to video player controls

Hi there.

My client is asking for something in a program that I can't figure out how to do, or if it's even possible.  Maybe someone here can help

The problem is with a slide containing a video.  I've inserted the video and set everything up and it works fine.  I've enabled "show video controls" and that works fine as well.  The design of the page includes a large "play button" graphic in the center of the video player that, when clicked, would disappear and play the video.  I've been able to set this up to work EXCEPT that if you click on the built in video controls of the player, the large "play button" graphic in the center of the video won't hide.

I guess my question is this: I can add a trigger to the video so that when someone clicks on the vid the "play button" image hides.  But that trigger doesn't function when you click the player's built-in controls.  Is there a way to add a trigger to the player's built-in controls?
