Trying to pass variable to LMS using directions.

Hello,

I'm trying to set up an email form and report the values to the lms by sending the email variable to the text entry variable of a survey answer. 

I've been trying to follow these directions. No matter how I submit the interaction, it's still forcing me to interact with the survey slide. I've disabled the text entry box, deleted it, set it to submit on start of timeline.
