Check whether the slide that fails is the same each publish. If so, duplicate the "culprit" slide and delete the original, then tie up any loose ends (previous/next buttons etc). Then try republishing again.
If it isn't the same, then check for memory leaks via the task manager. SL does bloat certain story files created with earlier versions.
Is this happening with all files you created in Storyline 1 and are attempting to upgrade? I've heard a few random issues such as a missing button or needing to re-add triggers, but nothing that prevented publishing as a whole.
A way to test if it's something in the file or something with the upgrade process is to also try opening that file in Storyline 2. You can download a trial here.
