two scores being sent to LMS (TinCan)

Hi, here's what I received from the LMS  about a course that is not recording a score correctly:

"... is with the scores that are being sent back. In TinCan , there are two scores that are sent back, the “percentage” and “score_scaled”. The score_scaled is being set correctly as 71 and 100 in the two courses whereas the percentage is being set as 50 each time which is where the issue lies."

The tracking is set correctly in the publishing settings. Any suggestions where to look for this mysterious "score_scaled" score?  In the variables there are:
