Types of Media FIles that CAN be edited in Storyline?

Mar 13, 2019

I have a SME sending me video files that will need to be cropped or have content added on the side of the video page.  What types of files will be able to be edited in Storyline? (I have seen the article that says what cannot be edited, but need to know what  CAN be edited!)

Thank you!

Hi Lisa,

You can add in the following video types and they're natively supported in Storyline:

  • FLV
  • MP4
  • SWF

These file formats will be converted to MP4 in Storyline:

  • 3G2
  • 3GP
  • ASF
  • AVI
  • DV
  • M1V
  • M2V
  • M4V
  • MOV
  • MPE
  • MPEG
  • MPG
  • QT
  • WMV

The only ones that can't be edited are below, as the others should be converted to MP4 upon inclusion in Storyline.

  • SWF files (Flash movies)
  • FLV videos with alpha channel transparency
  • Website videos (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)

For adding content next to a video, that can be done directly in Storyline on the slide itself. If you resize the video smaller than the slide size that would free up some real estate for other content.
