Unable to email recipients containing #

Hi
I'm comfortable with sending an email from an elearning course and usually do this via JavaScript so that I can pre populate the subject etc.
However, for some reason it doesn't work when the mail recipient contains a '#'. We have several mailboxes at our company, all of which are prefixed with a # - for example: #mailbox@uk.companyname.com and its really annoying that I cant link out to these. The # seems to break the code.
Does anybody know how to resolve this? I have also tried using the simple 'send email' trigger but this doesn't work either - it just opens up a blank email.
I'm using Storyline 360.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Luke
