Uncommanded movement of variables used as labels

May 30, 2018

In the attached example, I am using variables as labels for rectangles. Vertical alignment is set to "middle". Works fine until the rectangle state becomes selected wherein, the vertical alignment moves to top despite states showing both states are "middle" alignment.
If the labels are top justified there is no movement, and if the labels aren’t variables there is no movement.

Thanks for including your file, Jenny – really sorry you're seeing that misalignment.

I tested it in Storyline 360 (Update 16) and saw the same issue you described only in Preview mode – here's a quick Peek of what I saw there. The strange thing is that the published output works fine. Here are the HTML5 and Flash Web outputs. Do you see the same/different behavior?

I don't see anything in the file that would cause the text to jump to the top in just Preview mode, so I'd like to get more eyes on this. I've submitted your project to our Support Engineers for a second look, and they'll be in touch shortly. I'll also follow along and share all updates here, as needed!

Hi again, Jenny – and those following along!

I took a peek at your case this morning and saw that my teammate, Renz, logged text labels misalign when there's a variable reference in the textbox/shape during Preview as a potential software bug.

Appreciate you letting us know about this behavior, and I'm really sorry for the headaches! You're in the right place for updates, and here's some insight on our process for tackling bugs

Jumping into this discussion to share that we aren't seeing this bug, During Preview, text labels move up in Vertical Alignment when there is a variable reference in the textbox/shape, in Storyline 360 (Build 3.61.27106.0). If you're seeing this bug, please make sure that you're using the latest version of Storyline 360.

If you need additional support, please reach out to our team in this discussion or privately in a support case.
