Understading Storyline Resume dynamics

May 20, 2013

Greetings-

Students are getting very inconsistent behavior when trying to utilize the Resume feature in Storyline.  The course is not running on an LMS, it is just hosted on a web site.

What I'm finding is that some times Resume takes the learner back to the exact slide, other times it goes to an opening slide on a scene, some times it just seems to go back to the same slide regardless of when the user closed the course.

Is there any detail document that describes how the various settings and user scenarios impact Resume.  Some of the areas that come to mind:

  1. Player Resume Settings
  2. Slide When Revisiting Settings
  3. Variables
  4. Browser (Flash) Settings
  5. Others?

Other guidance appreciated.

Thanks

Todd

We are having the same problem also with the return not working as expected.  We have a course that consists of slides and a quiz.  If the user exits and returns anywhere before question 43 (out of 50 question quiz) in the course it RETURNS them to the correct place; however, if they exit anywhere after question/slide 43  it always takes them back to question 43.  I've done standard analysis to see if question/slide 43 has anything set differently than slide 42, 44, etc and there is nothing.  I also found the box that can be checked based on the LMS behavior--tried both options and nothing.

Has there been an answer to this issue? I am having the EXACT same issue as posted by Al above. I can't put my project into Production because of this issue.I posted a separate issue on this before I found this thread. I have 11 chapters with quizzes and get through Chapter 4 and resume stops working.

Can someone provide a link to the technical information on resume so I can have our LMS folks look at this?

Hey Ray,

I did find a solution, and have pasted the response I created for someone previously:

If found a thread called, "Exceeding SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 2nd Edition limits for suspend data", which simply says the resume bug is a problem with data limits in the SCORM 2.1 specification and the only solution is to use SCORM 2004 4th Edition.

I repackaged our modules into SCORM 2004 4th Edition and the resume problem is resolved (and uploaded).
Hope this helps.
