Got what may be a silly question. I was having an audio problem after publishing and looked for answers. One was to update to version 5 of Storyline 3. Thought to myself, "Have I updated?" Went to the download section and found version 6 and downloaded it. Audio problem seems to be fixed. But now I wonder, if I missed version 5 did I also miss the updates that were in that fix?

No, updates are cumulative. Version 6 includes all fixes that came before.
