Uploading WMV file

Has anyone had any issues when trying to import a WMV file while working on the Windows XP system?

When I click the Video From File option and find the WMV file that I would like to import I get the following error:

THE SELECTED VIDEO COULD NOT BE IMPORTED. PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSIONS OF WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER AND THE APPLE QUICK TIME PLAYER INSTALLED ALONG WITH ANY REQUIRED CODECS.

I've confirmed with my IT department that I have the most updated version of Windows Media Player for Windows XP (Windows Media Player 11). He also said that since I'm not working on a MAC that I don't need the Apple QuickTime Player...is that true? 

Any thoughts on this one?
