Urgent: Difference between Passed and Completed status?

Mar 10, 2015

Hi, our client is using SL2 with Moodle 2.7.3. The scorm reports are showing passed for some students and completed for some others. What is the difference? The scorm is published with passed/incomplete status and scorm 1.2 while in moodle the scorm setting is set to force complete.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Jasmine

Thanks so much Dan, I've now set it to "No" for the force completed option.

In the meantime, can you or someone here help with these 2 related questions:

1. We have set the SCORM setting to require status "Completed" in order for the activity to be considered complete. Many students have already started attempts and some received "Passed" status. This means these students are unable to proceed to the next course items. Is there anyway to fix this without unlocking completion status and erasing all students' completion status?

2. What is the difference between "Passed" and "Completed" status? We need to know what the student is doing differently to get the "Passed" instead of the "Completed" status so that we can provide correct instructions to them going forward.

Thanks in advance!

1. I haven't tried this for a while - anything is possible but you may need an experienced Moodle developer to help with this as it may require db level changes. Try contacting your local Moodle Partner to help.

2. Your SCORM package is setting "passed" at some point in the interaction - probably at the time the user finishes with the package. The Force completed setting sets the status to "completed" during different events and will interfere with your package.

I don't think I've had to explain the differences between passed and completed before.. I wonder if there's an articulate doc that explains how they operate when using Articulate products?

Hi Dan and Jasmine,

The only real differences are based on LMS's using different language so that we've included all those options. The other element is that you can pass the completion and the success status as described here, Completed/Incomplete and Completed/Failed report only the completion status, whereas Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed will report both completion and success.
