What would cause the text entry boxes to become unclickable (sporadically)? This occurs on a web server and also in the client's LMS, occasionally. The user is completely stuck, since we require input to move ahead. It seems to happen in FireFox and Safari, but not IE10. I think it may be related to security issues in the browsers. If I understood how the text entry functions, it might help. Any thoughts?
It could have something to do with the browser, but without testing, I can't say for sure.
Is there anything that covers the text entry field at any point? A layer or animation, etc.?
Is this happening to users that are revisiting the course, or does it happen the first time they run the course?
Are you able to reproduce the issue on your end, or is this only being reported by external users?
Do you know what builds/versions of the browsers are being used?
Can you share either the web or LMS link for the course, so we can do some testing with different browsers and see if we're able to reproduce the issue on our end? If not, are you able to provide the .STORY file for testing?
If you can, please let us know if you're viewing the HTML5 or Flash version of the project - also, let us know when (if there's a specific slide or slides) this happens.
I've seen an issue with field selection in HTML5. Is this in the Flash output or in HTML5?
We found that there was a problem (only noted in HTML5) when a layer was opened above a field. Even if no objects in the layer blocked the field it wasn't selectable. A few options to remedy it in our case included not opening layers over the top of fields and adding the field to the layer that opens over the base slide.
Steve, it looks like she's working with the Flash output in this case - but thank you very much for chiming in :)
Jill, I was able to find your support case (#00396931 for my reference). It looks like Jayem is currently testing the file that you uploaded with the case.
I tested the file on my end, and here are my results:
• Tested in Google Chrome Version 34.0.1847.116 m
Results: I'm able to successfully enter text in the specified fields and submit.
• Tested in Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17031
Results: I'm able to successfully enter text in the specified fields and submit.
• Tested in Firefox 28.0
Results: I'm able to successfully enter text in the specified fields and submit.
• Tested in Safari 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)
Results: Able to select the text box (cursor is active), but unable to enter text.
• Tested in Maxthon v4.2.1.1000
Results: I'm able to successfully enter text in the specified fields and submit.
I have not tested with Internet Explorer 10, as this is not currently installed on my machine. As you can see from the above, however, I did experience the issue with Safari.
For the moment, I would recommend suggesting your learners use one of the versions that successfully load the course and allow text entry.
You should receive an update from Jayem soon. I'm curious to see if he has the same results when testing on his end. If so, we can look a little closer at what might be specific to Safari and/or Internet Explorer 10 that may be causing the issue.
I am having the same issue. I have read all the past articles and formatted to those specifications suggested. I find that if the text entry is rather small, such as one line, the entry field works as designed. I have one field that is rather lengthy and no matter what I do - I cannot get it to work. I am using Storyline 2 Update 12: 1705.520. Browser is IE Version 11.0.9600.18638 (which I think might be the problem - but is the Company's standard)
I have designed the trigger on the text entry to Jump to next slide when the Enter key is pressed if text is equal to ...... - no resolution
I have imported the scene into a new project - no resolution.
I have no additional layers on that slide to overlay the field.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! seriously - I have been working to resolve this for three days.
Sorry to hear that this issue is continuing to give you trouble. Thanks for letting us know the troubleshooting that you've already done as that is certainly helpful.
Would you be able to share the .story file for us to take a look?
I'm facing this issue for a few days. We made an update of our LMS, to allow 32/64 bits compatibility and since that LMS update, we have this problem
My first idea was an issue in the new version of the LMS, but it appears that several people have exactly the same issue than me, so, it's now a quite different approach...
If I look to the story.html file out of my LMS, it works properly. if I launch the story.swf file from my LMS, it does not work at all
I have no layer on the slide
Browser is IE Version 11.0.9600.18860 CO
File was created with Storyline 2
Do you have any input to solve that issue? A specific version of IE or Storyline? Any change in IE options? I hope that I will avoid to republish all my contents, which would be a massive disaster for me...
The story.html file should launch the Flash output as long as the browser allows Flash (vs the story_html5.html launching HTML5 content). A few browsers have started to block Flash by default - so you may need to look into the browser settings.
Thanks for your input
I have seen some issues related to Flash, but I thought that these issues will not allow me to even open my file
On my case, file is launched properly, but I'm stuck with the first text box as mentioned
I just checked, that issue appears in different plants I work with, and they have different versions of IE leading all to the same problem...
Plant 1 : 11.1944.14393.0
Plant 2 : 11.0.9600.18860CO - they modify the Storyline file, to avoid to use the text box and it works...however, it means that we need to republish all contents and that's not an acceptable solution...
Thanks for reaching out and sharing the image of the feedback you received from your users as well as your .story file. I'm not seeing these entries on the sample that you shared.
Can you share the steps to replicate the issue you are seeing with the file that you shared? I'd be happy to take a closer look.
Hey again, Daphne. To follow up, I've isolated the issue to using numeric characters in a text entry field in HTML5 output. I changed the phone number field to a numeric entry field, changed the trigger conditions to match that new variable, and it works!

Hi, Christine. I submitted a ticket with the Story file for your review. Thanks, this is a real problem is users get stuck in the course!

Was a fix ever found for the issue in Safari?
Many thanks in advance.
Hi Shabd,
This discussion is a bit older - so I'd want to start fresh with you to know what you're seeing.
I'm having a similar issue. Unfortunately the place where our content is posted is password protected so I can't post a link here.
The user cannot click into the text entry field and enter anything
This issue seems to have resolved itself. Not sure what happened here...

Hey Olivier,
You should be sharing the story.html file with your learners. This allows Storyline to determine which version of the content to display.
It sounds like that is working as intended?
Unfortunately, for the moment, our LMS only works with Flash file...and it was working perfectly in the past
We may need to switch from Flash to html or even html5 in the future...
The story.html file should launch the Flash output as long as the browser allows Flash (vs the story_html5.html launching HTML5 content). A few browsers have started to block Flash by default - so you may need to look into the browser settings.
If you're looking towards HTML5 only, that is a new option available in Storyline 3 and Storyline 360 - and you can read about our enhanced HTML5 output here (and why it's even more important if Flash is going away...).
Thanks for your input

Any idea to help me?

Hi Olivier!
Would you be able to share the .story file you are working with and allow us to take a look to see if we can replicate.
Just point us to the problematic slide(s). If you cannot share the file in the forums, you are welcome to share here privately.
Hi Leslie,
I'm having the same issue.
Issue appearing in Chrome 69.0.3497.100 (Official Build) (64-bit)
We are using Storyline 2 Update 10: 1607.1221
There are no additional layers in the slide.
This works ok in IE though. (Microsoft Edge 41.16299.611.0)
My colleague has Chrome v46.0 and works OK at her end.
Are there any updates on this Chrome issue?
Looking forward to your reply!
Hi Daphne,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing the image of the feedback you received from your users as well as your .story file. I'm not seeing these entries on the sample that you shared.
Can you share the steps to replicate the issue you are seeing with the file that you shared? I'd be happy to take a closer look.
I did notice that you mentioned you were using Update 10, and we are currently on Update 13 for Storyline 2. Also, Storyline 2 supports the latest version of Chrome, which is v70.
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for your recommendations. We now have the latest Update 13 for Storyline 2 installed, however, the issue still persists.
The text entry still doesn't work on Chrome 69.0.3497.100. How can we resolve this?
I've attached a sample file wherein the learner is asked to type in the phone number (8690490) and website (www.dmalayoinc.com).
I hope you can help us solve this.
Hi there, Daphne! I published your course (and added a third slide to show whether the trigger is working to jump to the next slide.
I saw the Flash output working in Chrome, but the HTML5 output did not. Check out my links here:
Let me know if you see the same! In the meantime, I'm going to share this behavior with my team and see if we can find some next steps.
Hey again, Daphne. To follow up, I've isolated the issue to using numeric characters in a text entry field in HTML5 output. I changed the phone number field to a numeric entry field, changed the trigger conditions to match that new variable, and it works!
Test out this HTML5 output of your course with the numeric entry field. Let me know how that works for you.
Hi Crystal!
Thanks so much for the help! It's working now on our end.
The Flash Player was the verdict. We just enabled it for Chrome and we no longer encountered any issues. =)
My SME cannot make comments in the text field. It is asking her for her email. She is using ie.
Can you tell me what would cause this? I have never had that problem before with my SMEs.
