User completes a course but isn't recorded

May 25, 2020

Hi, We have courses 100 slides long about 90 mins long and all 2-3 min videos.

We use 360 but some users are completing the course answering the 20 questions and exit, it then still says in progress and when they go back in they click resume where you left off and it could be anywhere back in the middle of the course which is very frustrating for the user. Any reasoning or fix for this? I think  a lot of the time it is on mobile devices. Publishing to Scorm 2004 part 3, would a change away from this be any help?

Has anyone had this problem?
Would be very grateful for any replies, experiences or opinions

Thanks
Colin

Hi Colin, are you currently publishing to SCORM 1.2? Sometimes, Storyline courses can save too much data to the LMS (if using SCORM 1.2) and the course can no longer resume to the location the user left at. One thing you can try, if this works for your course, is to have your slides "Reset to initial state" for the "When revisiting" slide property. This means the module will be storing less data on the LMS.

Publishing to SCORM 2004 would help if this is the problem, as SCORM 2004 allows more data to be stored and it is highly unlikely that the course would send too much data to the LMS if SCORM 2004.

Are you able to let me know what should be triggering your course as complete? Is it slides viewed, a quiz, or do you have a trigger on a slide that sets the course complete?

HI Sam,

Thanks so much for your reply, we are publishing to Scorm 2004 3rd Edition.  When I zip the files they can be the size of 250mb. All slides are reset to intial state but this is good to know.

The way we are triggering the course to completion is on quiz result and then on the results slide they click on exit and the course closes. We have 20 Questions and  submit answer on everyone of them.

Thanks

Hi Colin, I don't see any reason why the course wouldn't be bookmarking based on the information you have provided. It might be worth trying the module on a different LMS. SCORM Cloud is a good free service to test the module on and check the tracking (it provides logs). You might have a problem with the published size, as the free account has a limit of 100mb, but you might be able to just drop some videos out of the content to reduce the size.
