User Controlled Scrolling?

Oct 15, 2014

I have a large graphic that I want to have scroll from top to bottom with intermittent stops.  I'm having trouble using the motion paths which I can't really anchor to the start and stop points.  Thoughts?

Without seeing the .story file, it's difficult to make any specific suggestions. One thing that comes  to mind: Have you selected  the 'Relative Start Point' option for your motion path(s), so that the animation would not jump back to the start point all the time? See the first example in this testfile here. Never mind that it provides horizontal scrolling of a large image, but I got this to work.

That is EXACTLY what I am trying to do.  THANK YOU! Did you just use triggers and multiple animations, or is that layered?  Also, how did you put the arrows on either side of the image to control the scroll?

The relative start point was what was throwing me off.  When that is marked, is that the place where the center of the image starts, or is that where the first animation starts?

I used triggers on the Left/Right buttons on two linear motion path animations; one that moves the image (grouped with markers) to the left , the other one moves it to the right. Both animations use the Relative Start Position. This was all done in one layer, with the 'picture frame' and nav buttons placed on top of the image. The nav buttons are just custom buttons made up of Storyline shapes. The Relative Starting Position means that the animation, if executes repeatedly will begin from where it was moved to by a previous move. This way,  you can move an object one step at a time.
