User Notes

Nov 08, 2012

Hello,

Is there a way to have users take notes through the player while they're doing their training? I see a notes tab, but it appears that it's not interactive. The goal is for someone that runs into trouble, or has a question to be able to just type it in somewhere and have it logged to that particular slide.

Anyway to do this?

Thanks!

@Rusty and Spencer.

There are a number of different things you can do if you want to capture user data for use outside of the learning enviroment.

1. The first way is to use JavaScript to pass the user data to an external html document that the user could print.

I have created a simple Action Plan in Storyline which shows an example of this.

2. You could also capture user data using Google Docs.

Here is a good article on how to do this.

3. You could simply add an editable PDF to the Resources tab and instruct the user to enter the data in the PDF.

Hello Spencer,

I'm still trying to figure out what you want to do. Anyways see attached project. It's not pretty but is that similar to what you want to happen?

Hope this helps,

Donna

Hello Spencer,

1. Just like what Nancy said, you can start by accessing the Slide Master. In the Slide Master, you can create the Text Box or "Notes Content Holder" so that you don't have to paste it over and over again on each of the individual slides.

2. Once you have done this, create your "text entry variables". In the sample that I posted, I renamed them to Notes1, Notes2, etc.. so you know which slide its from.

3. Insert your Data Entry in the individual slides - most likely on the "Notes Content Holder".

4. Set each text entry to equal the variables you have created.

5. Once you're done, you should be able to go back to the slide master and input the (e.g. %Notes1%, %Notes2%) references there.

***This may require a lot of formatting because you don't know how much notes they will be typing on there***

Does it make sense?

It's kind of tough to explain via typing! LOL

Hope this helps.

Hi Dona

Is there a way of having notes for individual pages using a drop down from the main player settings?

i.e. each slide would have the drop down for delegates to make notes in. But the notes are specific to the pages so when a delegate reviews his course he can only see the notes specific to the page he is on. I need this to be in a drop down formate to save on space for course content.

I do hope this makes sense any help or guidance is most welcome.

Kindest regards

John

Hi Donna

Thank you for your help.

This is very close to what i need.

One thing id love to be able to achieve is have the notes saved some how so if the delegate has to have a brake and shuts down his PC when they start the course again on the same PC the notes will still be available.

We have been using a flip book application for our courses that has this facility and has proved very popular with delegates.

Also do you know if its possible construct a bookmaking facility this also would need to be able to be accessed like the notes facility described above.

I know these are probably quite difficult but it would be a fab thing to have.

Kindest regards

John
