Using a Question Bank but tracking by number of slides viewed

May 10, 2016

I was wondering if there is a work around for an issue I am currently experiencing.  I have a course which has a Question Bank of 15 questions. The reason for the question bank is allow for a randomised order for the questions. Having said that though now it only sees 3 slides - introduction, question slide holder (Draw From Slide) and results slide. But when running this through an LMS each question is seen as a slide so it marks you as complete after just viewing the intro slide and answering 2 of the 15 questions.

Any ideas?

Hi Christophe.

We were originally going to track in that manner but unfortunately with our LMS you remain incomplete until you pass the course and for us the score is actually irrelevant. It is really a trivia quiz type game that we are using to ensure people do pre reading and through the course they are engaging with the material as we give detailed feedback on each question (on both the correct and incorrect response slides).

We really just want to know that you worked through the course and would like the questions not to all be in the same order for each delegate.

Any other ideas?

The issue we have here is that if they experience any issue whilst logging into the course (which some do - normally a java player update that is required) it marks them as incomplete and then even if they do the course again their mark remains as zero as our system reports the first passing score.

As the score is actually not relevant we are trying to move away from it. We are not even going to use it for anything. As I said it is really a trivia quiz type game that we are using to ensure people do pre reading and through the course they are engaging with the material as we give detailed feedback on each question.

I am just trying to find a way that the questions can be randomised to make it more interesting, hence the question bank.

Do you think there is any way of getting around this or will I have to revert to have simple slides with questions and the questions in a fixed order?

Hi Leanna,

I created a small tests that added an additional slide.

On this slide a pick-one questions is added that actually checks whether people reached the end of your project or not. So the score of each of your questions in the question bank is not taken into account. Only when people reach the second to last slide, the course can be marked as complete to the LMS.
