using a third party's published content on your own system

May 29, 2020

Hi there. Does anyone know if there is a way for another company's published storyline content to be transferred to another for use in another system? The staffer at the parent firm tried sending me the published output but says it was rejected due to some file being rejected. Not sure what that means.  The parent firm is publishing to an LMS format (they are with a major LMS provider). We have a custom portal that we "used" to upload Presenter output to (but not in an LMS format).  We need to share the eModules from the parent firm with our staff, and track it if possible.  Can they not just email the files so we can "attempt" to insert it into our system?

Hi Andy, can the files not be transferred via email due to the email software not allowing certain files to be transferred perhaps? I know some email clients will block JavaScript files from being sent as an attachment. You could look to use a file transfer system such as FTP, Google Drive, Dropbox or similar.

Regarding whether the content will track on the system it is going to will depend on what the published files are published as (SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, Tin Can). It is most likely SCORM 1.2, and therefore the system they are being imported to would need to be SCORM 1.2 compatible to track any data (completion, scores, bookmarking etc).
